Verify a UK locksmith by name — free tool that runs the six public checks
How to read the results honestly
Companies House — no result: the trader is either not a UK limited company, or is trading behind a name designed not to be traceable. Ask them directly for their registration number and check it against the name they gave you. If the two do not match, stop.
ICO register — no result: every locksmith taking your address details must register with the ICO. If they are not on the register and are actively trading, they are non-compliant with the UK GDPR — a data-protection red flag before any of the trust questions.
Google Business Profile — no listing or empty listing: no photos of a real van, no team photos, no reviews spread over time. Rogue operators usually skip the GBP entirely because it takes months to seed convincingly.
Phone number returns three unrelated locksmith sites: the rotating-brand pattern — one call centre, three websites, different trading names on each. That call centre is not local, and you do not know who will actually turn up.
LockSafe says “not on our verified list”: not proof of anything on its own — plenty of genuine UK locksmiths are not on any platform. Combine with the checks above; if the trader passes Companies House + ICO + Google Business Profile, they are probably fine even without a LockSafe listing.
